About this diagnostic

The Pangolin Edge SIE practice exam is built to mirror the structure of the real FINRA Securities Industry Essentials exam: 75 scored questions weighted to match FINRA's published content outline, delivered in a single 105-minute sitting. Unlike a casual flashcard drill, it's designed to surface the specific domains where your understanding still has gaps.

Every wrong answer comes with a written explanation tied to the concept being tested — not just "the correct answer is X." Use the explanations to update your understanding, then use the domain breakdown to decide what to study next.

What each domain covers

Capital Markets

Market structure, offerings, the four key bodies (SEC, FINRA, MSRB, SIPC), and core economic concepts. Roughly 16% of the real SIE.

Products & Risks

Equity and debt securities, packaged products, options, and the major risk categories. The biggest section at ~44%.

Trading & Accounts

Order types, T+1 settlement, ex-dividend timing, customer account types, and Regulation T initial margin. ~31% of the SIE.

Regulatory

Reg BI, AML basics, prohibited activities (churning, front-running, insider trading), and FINRA-specific rules. Smallest at ~9%.

Who this diagnostic is for

  • Candidates with a test date in 1–4 weeks, deciding which domain needs the most attention.
  • Career changers and first-time test takers who want to see what the real SIE feels like.
  • Retakers diagnosing which domain dragged the score on a previous attempt.
  • Anyone who's read the material and wants to validate readiness before booking the exam.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as the real SIE?

No. This is an SIE-style diagnostic written to match the format and difficulty of the real exam. No prep provider has access to live FINRA exam content.

How accurate is the score as a predictor?

Most candidates score within a few points of their actual SIE result, as long as they take the diagnostic timed and without looking anything up. Treat the domain breakdown — not the total score — as the most useful signal.

Can I retake it?

Yes, unlimited. The results screen has a Restart button (same order) and a Shuffle-restart button (randomized order). Each restart resets the timer and clears your previous answers.

Do I need to finish in one sitting?

No. Your progress is saved automatically in this browser tab. Close the tab, come back later, and you can resume where you left off — including the remaining time on the timer.

What should I do if I score below 70%?

Look at the domain breakdown to find which domain dragged your score, then drill that domain on the practice-questions page, use the flashcards to lock in terminology, and retake the diagnostic. Pangolin Edge's full SIE prep course covers every domain with video lessons and additional mock exams.
