Questions

Common questions about the SIE and this course

How much does the course cost?

$17.99 with our site coupon — a one-time payment with lifetime access, no subscription and no expiring study window. For comparison, the major SIE providers run from $99 for self-study up to $895 for institutional coaching tiers. See the full breakdown on our comparison page.

Is the course enough to pass the SIE on its own?

Yes — it covers FINRA's full content outline with section quizzes and timed mock exams. Students who want extra test reps add the companion six-exam practice course.

Does that include the FINRA exam fee?

No — that's separate. FINRA charges $100 to sit the SIE, paid directly to FINRA when you enroll. No prep provider includes it.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. Enrollment goes through Udemy, so Udemy's 30-day money-back guarantee applies. Refunds are requested and processed inside your Udemy account — Pangolin Edge doesn't handle billing. Udemy applies some eligibility limits, so their current refund policy is the authority.

Do I lose access after a certain period?

No. Udemy enrollment is lifetime access, including future updates to the course. Several competitors sell time-boxed access instead — Achievable's SIE product, for example, runs on a 12-month window.

What's the SIE exam format?

75 scored questions plus 5 unscored pretest questions — 80 total — in a 105-minute window. Multiple choice, four options each, with no penalty for guessing. Passing is a scaled score of 70. You can practice the real format with our free 75-question diagnostic.

How is the exam weighted?

Four FINRA sections: Understanding Products and Their Risks at 44%, Understanding Trading, Customer Accounts and Prohibited Activities at 31%, Knowledge of Capital Markets at 16%, and Overview of the Regulatory Framework at 9%. Both the course and our free practice exam follow those same weights.

How long should I study?

Most candidates need two to four weeks at roughly one to two hours a day. Closer to two weeks if you're coming from a finance degree, closer to four if you're new to the industry. We publish free 2-week and 4-week study schedules, plus a breakdown of how hard the SIE actually is — the published first-time pass rate is around 74%.

Do I need a sponsoring firm to take the SIE?

No. Anyone 18 or older can sit the SIE without firm sponsorship, which is why students and career-changers often take it before they start applying for roles.
